Privacy Policy
The short version: ChatExport AI processes everything locally in your browser. Your conversation content is never transmitted to our servers. The only external communication is for Pro license validation - and even that only sends an encrypted device fingerprint, never your chat content.
1. Who We Are
ChatExport AI is a Chrome browser extension developed and operated by Umbrabits. You can contact us at [email protected].
2. What Data We Collect
We are committed to minimal data collection. Here is a complete list of all data the extension stores or transmits:
Stored Locally on Your Device
The extension uses chrome.storage.local - storage that never leaves your browser - to store:
- Daily export count - a number and date used to enforce the free plan's 3-exports-per-day limit. This never leaves your device.
- Pro license key - if you activate a Pro license, the key you entered is stored locally so you don't have to re-enter it.
- License status and expiry - the validation result (active/expired) and expiry date, cached locally to avoid constant server calls.
- Device fingerprint - a one-way SHA-256 hash derived from public browser properties (user agent, screen dimensions, timezone, language, color depth, hardware concurrency). This is a non-reversible identifier - it cannot be used to identify you personally. It is used solely to bind a Pro license to your browser.
Transmitted to Our Server
Our license server at api.chatexportai.com receives the following, only when you activate, deactivate, or revalidate a Pro license:
- Your license key (the key you purchased)
- Your device fingerprint (the hashed value described above)
Your conversation content, chat history, browsing history, or any personal information is never transmitted. Ever.
3. What Data We Do NOT Collect
- Your AI conversation content - it stays in your browser only
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers (free plan)
- Your browsing history or visited URLs
- Analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking of any kind
- Cookies or cross-site tracking
4. How We Use the Data
The only purpose for the data collected is:
- License validation - to confirm that a Pro license key is valid and active, and to prevent sharing of a single license across many devices simultaneously.
- Export quota - to enforce the free plan's daily limit locally on your device.
We do not sell, rent, share, or use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than operating the extension.
5. Data Retention
All locally stored data (export count, license key, fingerprint) remains on your device until you uninstall the extension or clear Chrome's extension storage. If you deactivate your Pro license, license-related data is deleted from local storage.
Our license server retains license activation records (license key + fingerprint hash + activation timestamp) for the duration of your subscription, to manage device limits. These records are deleted when your subscription expires or is refunded.
6. Third-Party Services
LemonSqueezy - Pro licenses are sold and managed through LemonSqueezy. When you purchase a Pro plan, LemonSqueezy processes your payment and issues your license key. Their privacy policy governs that transaction: lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.
We do not have access to your payment details or billing address. We receive only your license key and, optionally, the email address associated with your purchase (used only to display in the extension's license panel).
7. Permissions Justification
ChatExport AI requests only the minimum permissions required to function:
- scripting - used to inject the extension's sidebar and export UI into AI chat pages (chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com). This is the core mechanism of the extension.
- storage - used to store the license key and daily export count locally on your device.
- host_permissions (specific domains) - used to inject scripts into the supported AI platforms, and to fetch attachments (images, files) you have shared in AI conversations for inclusion in ZIP exports.
8. Children's Privacy
ChatExport AI is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
